Often depression is confused with deep sadness; however, depression is an absence of feelings, a reduction of emotion. Depression can feel like an enormous weight on your back or like an unwanted guest staying at your house. It can also make your life feel as though you are watching it go by like a movie instead of an active participant.
I use mindfulness as a tool when working with depression. Through mindfulness you can learn that thoughts do not have to define you and those thoughts are not stagnant. You will discover that you have the power to choose which thoughts you want to follow and how you want to live your life as an active participant.
As you start the healing process you will notice a modification in perception which will cause a shift in all elements of your life. Using Gestalt techniques you will start to make a new relationship with parts of yourself that seem overwhelming and dark. However, through this process you will find that although in the beginning the light hurts it creates a lot of healing, and you will find you are capable of healing.
